Happy New Year 2017!

Councillor’s Corner - Wednesday January 11, 2017
Happy New Year! Welcome 2017. Although, the holidays are a special time for my family and I, it is always nice to get back to routine and getting back into the swing of things. Already, in 2017, hope has consumed me that this year will be better than last year for many. The mill is up and running, that is worth getting excited about. I’ve had a chance to talk with a few people that have received their recalls and congratulate them. May your transition back to work be safe and not to stressful. All the best to you. On the rails, there have been a few workers called back from the layoff. Hopefully this trend continues and that CN sees an increase in traffic, fingers crossed. As we look ahead to this special year, it’s our country’s 150th birthday! That is worth getting excited about too! It’ll be interesting to see the different events that will be held across our nation. It is also a time to show respect for the First Nations people that have endured so much since first contact. Although some of us celebrate 150th others have always belonged here. It’s a good time for reconciliation and education. It makes my heart grateful and glad that some are getting back to their jobs, hopeful that others get called back soon, and that we live in Canada, strong and free.
Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Cheryl Fort
